Song for Autumn

A ShenArts Member Exhibition

Inspired by Mary Oliver’s poetry, we invite artists to explore themes of changing seasons, the passage of time, and introspective moments of autumn. Through visual art and poetry, this exhibition seeks to capture the essence of the season.

Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme through visual art, original poetry, or a combination of the two. Consider innovative ways to present your text, beyond standard formats, to enhance its visual appeal. Work does not have to include text to be considered. All submissions must be suitable for display.

Submission Guidelines

Artists must be current ShenArts members to participate.
Work may not have previously exhibited with ShenArts or at the MSV.
All work must be display ready. Wall pieces must have hanging wire and/or D-ring hangers.
Accepted artwork must remain on display through November 10, 2024.
Adding QR codes or any stickers to display labels is strictly prohibited.

Work should follow the theme of the show and may include text, but this is not a requirement. Eligible media: poetry, drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, pastels, block/ink print, pottery, ceramics, sculpture, assemblage, digital art, collage, metal work, jewelry design, fiber/textile art, wood work, soft sculpture, weaving/tapestry. Please keep works on the small to medium size due to limited exhibit space.

Please be sure you can deliver and pickup work at the required times before you apply. Artists may submit up to 3 works. Each submission will include:

High-resolution images of the artwork.
A brief artist statement (200 words max) explaining the connection between the work and the theme of the exhibition.

NOTE: Juried work will not only be on display at the MSV but will also be displayed in the online gallery. Submit professional high-quality images both for jurying and for potential buyers to view your work in the online store.

Selection Process

Submissions will be reviewed by a jury of artists and poets. Selected artists will be notified by August 11. Works will be chosen based on artistic quality, interpretation of the theme, and creativity.
